What are MCTs?
MCTs are medium-chain fatty acids with a wide range of health benefits. Unlike regular long-chain triglycerides (LCTs), the body metabolises them differently and absorbs them faster. MCTs can be derived from coconut or palm oil, but we only use coconut MCTs in our Melrose formulas.
Coconuts contain many chains of triglycerides, however the main types are from MCT. These include C6 (caproic acid), C8 (caprylic acid), C10 (capric acid) and C12 (lauric acid). Each of these have slightly different actions, though overall are a great addition to your diet as they're an excellent energy source.
Medium Chain Triglycerides reach the liver more quickly than longer chain fats, converting instantly into ketones, an energy source for the body. They are particularly beneficial when following a low-carb diet as they can contribute to a state of ketosis, whereby the body relies on fat for it’s energy source. How Does Melrose MCT Kick Start Work?
Melrose Kick Start MCTs work by converting directly into ketones, through the liver, which helps you stay in a state of ketosis, supporting a keto lifestyle. It also provides a sustainable source of fuel for the body. Kick Start is best consumed with a low carb diet.
Directions: Take ONE teaspoon daily for a week, then slowly increase by ONE to TWO teaspoons, up to a maximum of TWO tablespoons. Decrease serving size or discontinue if you experience nausea, discomfort or diarrhoea.
